Helen graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Masters of Speech Pathology in 2017. Since then, Helen has worked for the Department of Education in Tasmania (where she grew up) and Brisbane. Helen is passionate about ensuring students are supported to reach their full potential within education, home and community settings.
Helen has experience supporting children of all ages through her work in the Early Childhood Development Program (for pre-school aged children), Primary schools, High schools and Special/Support schools for students in Prep-Grade 10. Helen strives to enable children with communication difficulties to engage in activities and participate in their world in a way that celebrates their unique cultural and language background. She achieves this by listening empathically to families' concerns and goals, advocating for adjustments to empower children to overcome barriers to their participation and regularly reviewing the evidence base to deliver an excellent service.
Helen has experience working with children with language disorders, speech sound disorders, disorders related to literacy, disorders of fluency (stuttering), developmental delays, attention disorders as well as children who are neurodivergent and children who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). In her spare time, Helen enjoys camping on the Islands in the Moreton Bay region with her partner Julian and rescue dog Maya.
